Designline Reference 2001

Dear Trevor,

It's 6.30 on Monday night and I note your staff are about to start a night shift at our plant to ensure Designline can deliver on time, coaches for the tour season.

Next month it will be 16 years since Designline and Aeromarine started working together producing Coaches, City Buses, Library Buses and special vehicles such as the Hospital Bus for Mobil Medical Services, the Double Decker Coach for Scenic and the Mirage Coaches for Fiordland Travel in Queenstown.

The first two coaches we fitted your front and rear cowlings to, still work on tour work and are once again based in Canterbury.  One is the MAN high deck built for Pacific Tourways.  The other is an Isuzu ECR Coach built for Ritchies Timaru.

Some significant changes have taken place since we started, such as the run of 72 City Buses we are about to finish at a delivery rate of 2.5 buses per week.  This would have been impossible in the early days.  We are now pricing another 150 City Buses for Stagecoach of the 700 series of which we have now produced 411 vehicles for various operators around New Zealand.  No other builder in New Zealand has ever produced over 400 of the same model.

The ability of your staff, many of whom were with you when we started to produce the many and varied moulds and articles required for our vehicles is a credit to all concerned.

On behalf of Management and Staff I would like to thank you for your support to make Designline what it is today.  The effort your company has put in to produce a quality product that has now been well tested by time, often produced under extremely short delivery schedules, which required managed production and long hours,

We all look forward to another sixteen years working together to create a quality product for our customers. who in turn can provide the services demanded in Public Transport today.
